Philosophy of Care

Providing residents with greater autonomy, dignity and choice in their daily lives

Too often, sole focus is given to the clinical needs of the elderly while not realising that loneliness, boredom and helplessness can be as damaging to eldely residents as physical ailments.

Continuing Health Care (CHC) prides itself on its ability to de-institutionalise long term care by creating more liveable, social and interactive communities for its residents.

Through an extensive international search of the best philosophies and facilities for the next generation of aged care, CHC has adopted the Eden Principles as its aged care philosophy to supplement its clinical services.

The Eden Principles

Through the Eden Principles, CHC's resident are offered autonomy, dignity and choice together with the benefits of inter-generational activities. This includes regular interaction between residents and children. For example, CHC operates registered play groups at each of its three aged care facilities.

The Eden Principles were developed and first implemented in the United States of America and have since spread throughout Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia. CHC is a leader in the implementation of the Eden Principles in Australia.

CHC has committed to training all of its staff in the Eden Principles to ensure the best outcome for its residents. Training is extended to not only carers and nurses but also management and administrative personnel.

CHC founder and proprieter Mrs Rhonda Peploe is a Founding Director of Eden in Oz, a new, not-for-profit organisation that is overseeing and directing the growth of Eden in Australia and New Zealand. CHC directors and senior management have visited and studied operational Eden and Greenhouse facilities in the Eastern States of Australia and in the USA.
